An In-Depth Review of the Krups 6 Slice Digital Convection Toaster Oven
Krups is a German company with an incredibly long history; they have been around since 1846. What is it that has helped this company thrive for over 160 years while so many others have failed? The answer lies in Krups never-ending dedication to producing great products relevant in the marketplace. They have never just stood still; they are always adding to the growing field of housewares. Is the Krups toaster oven worthy of a company with such a long-standing reputation of innovation and quality?
To be able to provide an in-depth review, I tested the Krups 6 slice digital convection toaster oven for two months, using it for almost all of my cooking. My current toaster oven was moved into storage for the duration of the review period, to make sure I would get an accurate idea of how the nKrups 6 slice digital convection toaster oven performs with regular use.
Upon first receiving the Krups toaster oven and removing it from the box, I noticed the solid, sturdy feel it has. It is definitely quite well-constructed; no cheap parts on this one. The design is pleasing, falling somewhere between modern and comfortable. It has the look of an expensive appliance without being overdone and making the rest of my kitchen look bad. The interior of this toaster oven is very spacious, but due to the rectangular shape it does not take up too much room on my countertop. I definitely like this toaster oven so far.
My first meal I prepared in this toaster oven was two bone-in skin-on chicken breasts drizzled with olive oil and coated with herbs. I like how easy to use the controls are; there was no need to consult the user’s manual. I found it a bit strange that the settings only go in 5 degree increments, but I can’t remember ever having to bake anything at 427 degrees so I don’t think that will be an issue. The quartz convection heating elements heated up quickly and cooked the chicken very evenly. There was a nice browning effect, and overall I was quite pleased with the initial performance.
Throughout the next two months I used the Krups toaster oven for almost all of my meals. There was one exception: I hosted a dinner party for eight friends and there just wasn’t enough room in the Krups toaster oven for all I needed to cook that evening. But on a daily basis the Krups toaster oven was all I needed. I was very pleased to see just how spacious the cooking area is. Some of the bigger items I cooked included a twelve inch pizza, Beef Wellington and a whole chicken (the chicken was on the small side.) It all fit beautifully and cooked up perfectly.
During the review period I encountered no problems with the Krups toaster oven itself. It always heats up quickly and cooks things quickly and evenly. It is well insulated and holds the heat well; something I am grateful for on hot days. The only disappointment I found lies in the included non-stick baking pan. I followed the manufacturer’s instructions and only hand-washed it yet the non-stick coating peeled off after only a few weeks. I have other baking pans that I can use, so this didn’t have too much of an adverse effect on me. Yet, I don’t feel it is right for Krups to include such an inferior product in the package when they charge almost $300 for this toaster oven. All in all, I do love this toaster oven and am actually planning to leave my old one in storage.
